We start our work in the field in March when the grafted roses are cut back. With this we cut off the growth of the rootstock just above the bud / graft.
This will further grow the rose through the bud / graft and create the first branches of the new rose.
You can see clearly in the photos here, together with a photo of the field as it looked in April after all the roses had been cut back.
In March I planted a new standard rose from our cold storage in the garden.
The later in the spring you plant the rose, the shorter you should cut the branches to stimulate regrowth.
