For more than a century, the company JD Maarse & Zn. traded garden roses in Aalsmeer. JD Maarse & Zn. was a very well-known name in the rose world. The company has been led by Mr. Smelt since 1984.
JD Maarse & Zn. mainly bought the roses that were traded from Jac. Verschuren-Pechtold and some minor suppliers in the north of Limburg. The company supplied roses mainly to cities, communities, private individuals and exported their roses to e.g. Japan and Switzerland.
Due to the growing competition, it became increasingly difficult for JD Maarse & Zn. to continue their business. When the director reached retirement age, he had no successor, but did not want to stop the company. Looking for a solution and he first visited his largest supplier Jac. Verschuren-Pechtold bv.
After several talks an agreement was reached to continue the company under the name Verschuren-Maarse bv. at our location at Kalkhofseweg 6a in Haps.
Verschuren-Maarse bv and Jac. Verschuren-Pechtold bv. have a common goal, namely to offer our beautiful roses to all corners of the world. The company currently focuses on supplying good quality, healthy varieties, and also has many varieties that are rare in the regular trade.
By this acquisition, the Verschuren company has also incorporated extensive knowledge regarding the export of roses. We take care of and for this and to almost all countries.
JD Maarse & Zn. also had a branch under the name Belle Epoque; these roses went to private individuals. This company has not been continued by Verschuren-Maarse bv, but Belle Epoque is still operational for the trade of roses to private individuals.
The roses sold by Belle Epoque, however, are also grown by Verschuren-Maarse.
